The Washington Examiner reports that Marion Barry is telling his supporters that he is in favor of getting rid of people more successful than himself. One can only presume that they shed a bad light on Blacks who, as a group, continue to fail in American society, even with the massive transfers of wealth and resources from the federal government.
Celebrating his victory in the Democratic primary on Tuesday night, Barry spoke up about the prominence of businesses owned by Asians in the District.
“We got to do something about these Asians coming in and opening up businesses and dirty shops,” Barry said in remarks first reported by WRC-TV. “They ought to go. I’m going to say that right now. But we need African-American businesspeople to be able to take their places, too.”
Barry, who won’t be opposed in November’s general election as he seeks his third consecutive term on the D.C. Council, was unavailable for comment Thursday morning.
This kind of comment from Barry is actually rather sad in a way. It shows that Blacks have yet to learn what it really takes to succeed in America.
In “The End of Racism” by Dinesh D’Souza, the author writes about the fact that despite decades of government assistance, affirmative action and all manner of different programs, Blacks as a group continue to fail in American society. While there are those who make it, many remain poor, illiterate and unemployable. The average net worth of black families is a tenth of the norm. And one hardly needs to point out the violent pathologies that are common in inner city slums. It is not surprising, therefore, that blacks feel the need to lash out at those minorities who have shown that it is possible to make it in America. And their success is a direct refutation to the argument from the left that one has to be white to do well.
The Asian people who are the object of Barry’s envy are successful because they take school seriously, they work hard, they plan for the future, they don’t get into trouble with the law and because they have self-discipline and self-control. They have a long time horizon and look to the future for themselves and for their kids.
Unfortunately many Blacks do none of these things. Thus they continue to fail.
And one more point needs to be made. Our Affirmative Action President has done nothing to improve the situation of Blacks in this country. Indeed, he has only made conditions worse, while inflaming racial hatred of Blacks for pretty much everyone else. He is appealing to the lowest common denominator in the hopes that it will get him re-elected. He obviously knows that he has lost much of the rest of the country. He can only count on the hard left base, and the Black population to support him in the coming election. Thus he finds that he has to rile up his base to make sure that they come out and vote for him. He knows that it will not be like 2008, and that he can only hope to win by tearing the country apart.
